Sir Winston Churchill
Churchill Academy is named after Sir Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Churchill struggled in school as a young boy, in part due to speech difficulties. He persevered and overcame his difficulties, stating, “My impediment is no hindrance”. He is now regarded as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.
Churchill was also a historian, a writer and an artist. He is the only British Prime Minister to have received The Nobel Prize in Literature, and was the first person to be made an Honorary Citizen of the United States.
