Our Academics

Churchill Academy has served special needs students who are unique learners since its founding in 1996. The school has proudly and effectively provided an alternative academic setting for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Language Arts

Language for Learning provides young learners with the knowledge and understanding of language they need to achieve proficiency and reading comprehension. This oral language program was designed for kindergarten and primary-age school children, as well as English language learners, giving them a strong foundation for expressive and receptive language.

Older students are challenged through expressive writing, grammar, and literature courses.

Science

Our curriculum blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers. Churchill students will also participate in a STEM lab activity once a week.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy services are available on site during the school day. Noelle McNeil and Auburn University Speech Clinic provide services to our students; both providers accept insurance.

Handwriting & Keyboarding

Handwriting is one of the foundational skills that lead students toward automatic word recognition. Handwriting Without Tears is a proven program for teaching handwriting to children. Developed by OTs, it uses multisensory techniques to make writing fun.

Social Studies

Our social studies programs are designed to draw your students into rigorous learning experiences to help them understand the world around them. Lessons and assignments are student-centered, grounded in inquiry, and aimed at developing responsible, active citizens.

MANE provides safe and effective therapeutic horseback riding opportunities to our students through weekly lessons. Accommodations are made for every student's needs.

Mathematics

Moving with Math curriculum is employed across all age groups at Churchill. MWM combines the use of true concrete manipulatives with the Concrete-Representational-Abstract instructional methodology to develop a conceptual understanding of essential objectives from Pre-Kindergarten through Algebra.

As students hold manipulatives in their hands, talk aloud, and draw pictures they develop an understanding of key concepts at the concrete level, eventually building to more abstract ideas.

Physical Education

Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness.

Art

Over the course of the year, students will learn how to use lines, shapes and color to convey meaning. They will explore a variety of subject matters and become keenly aware of their cultural and environmental influences.
